Rockwell Manor Living Room

The living room we really wanted more of a formal yet cozy space to entertain. The north facing windows surprisingly gave so much light that we ended up taking out the ceiling chandelier which helped make the ceiling feel much more open and taller. With all the incidental light from the other rooms all we needed was a floor lamp that we found in the Amazon Home Collection that lit the room perfectly. So just goes to show you don’t always need ceiling fixtures. Since we were installing new floors in the bedrooms, we asked the flooring guys if they could sand and refinish the existing hardwood in the living room and nook. We are so glad we did, the turned out beautiful!! I always recommend if you are going with a pre-finished floor, just make sure that it is real wood so that you can refinish them in the future. Hardwood floors will always get scratched, the finish will fade, and so inevitably they will need so be sanded and refinished after a decade of use. A lot of the engineered lumber you really can’t refinish because the wood is just a veneer and you may get one sanding out of it until you start sanding off the hardwood and are down to the plywood core.

For the rest of the design, the non-negotiable was that Savannah had to have double couches. Us finding couches is very difficult, we have completely opposite tastes. She like deep, comfortable, couches and I like more sleek and structured. We finally settled on the Harmony from West Elm. Luckily, they were 60% off so we literally were able to buy two for the price of one! The arm rests and legs had the structure that I was looking for and the large down cushions had the comfort for Savannah. Very properly named.
